Violet Everstine

October 31, 1938 — May 22, 2024

Violet Everstine, 85, of Dunkirk, MD, passed away on May 22, 2024, surrounded by family. Violet was born in Washington, D.C. to William and Lucy Dickerson, and grew up in Clinton, MD (formerly Possum Pike). Violet was a 1956 graduate of Surrattsville Sr High School in Clinton, MD. She met the love of her life, Roger, in 1954, and the two were wed on August 25, 1956. Together, Violet and Roger had three children, Elaine, Roger Jr., and Tommy. During the kids' school years, Violet was very active with being a room mother, trip chaperon, and Chairman of the PTA Hospitality Committee. She later worked for PG County Councilwoman Sue Mills, where she enjoyed attending political galas, fundraisers, and various social gatherings. Her next venture was being a demo person at Sam's Club in Waldorf, MD, where she was in her glory talking with customers and giving them food samples. Violet spent many years in the role of caregiver for various family members, which she was excellent at due to her love of people and her compassion.

She began baking at a very young age and loved to call her brothers and their friends in to surprise them with her freshly baked treats. As a young teen, she began baking and decorating wedding cakes for friends and family. Violet could look at pictures of all the cakes she made over the years and name each person the cake was for. Violet also enjoyed making cream puffs, cupcakes, and other goods for church activities, family, and friends. Not only was she a great baker, but she was also a wonderful cook. Feeding people was Violet's passion. She was happiest when she could put a meal or snack in front of someone, regardless of whether she expected their visit. She was never without a smile, kind word, or helping hand for others. She always exemplified the love of Christ. Everyone she met was a new friend.

In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Roger, brothers Billy (Margaret), Franklin (Georgetta), Jimmy, and Charlie, brother-in-law, Bill, son, Roger Jr., granddaughter, Lucy, sister-in-law, Darlene and daughter-in-law, Margie. Violet is survived by her daughter, Elaine (John), son Tommy, grandchildren, Becky (Mike), Robbie (Barbara), Steve, Eddie, and Amy, 10 great grandchildren, brother Donnie, sister, Betty, sister-in-law, Paula, daughter-in-law, Margaret, and many nieces and nephews.
