Violet Marie Mayes, 79, of Owings, MD, passed on June 25, 2024, in St. Mary’s hospital from complications of dementia.
She was born on April 5, 1945, to John Luther and Myrtle Eddy in Watertown, New York.
Violet had 2 sons, Robert and Richard, and 2 grandchildren, Amanda and Richie, that she loved dearly. She was an office worker most of her life and retired in 2010 from Penske after 33 years of service. Violet enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. People loved being around her because of her fun spirit and playful personality.
Violet is survived by her son Robert David Horn (Ida), son Richard Thomas Horn, granddaughter Amanda Horn, grandson Richie Horn Jr., stepdaughter Patty Whitney (Bill), brother Terry Luther, sister Nancy Favry (Dexter) and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Mayes; life partner of 30 years, Andrew Scamoni; siblings, Albert Baldwin, Beverly Barillo (Frank), Robert Baldwin (Donna), Allen Luther (Edna), John Luther (Lucille) and sister-in-law, Helen Luther.
A visitation will be held for family and close friends on Friday, July 5th, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736.
Violet will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
