Virgilio Fojas Mendoza, 73, of Fort Washington, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 15, 2026 at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center.
Virgilio, also known as "Vio" to family and close friends or "Virgil" to co-workers, was born on June 26, 1952 in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines, to the late Timoteo and Dominga Mendoza. He was the youngest son of five children.
Vio was a proud graduate from Tanza High School, Class of 1969. Before immigrating to the United States, he traveled the world as a Merchant Marine. Vio married Marietta "Mayeth" on March 16, 1988 and raised two children together in Fort Washington, MD. He spent 20 years as a Dialysis Technician working for Fresenius Medical Care and Inova Hospital. Vio enjoyed his retirement spending time with his grandchildren and traveling home to the Philippines. He loved singing karaoke, joking around to liven the room, and cherishing his time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Virgilio is survived by his wife, Marietta; his children: Maricar (Romuel) and Virgilio, Jr.; his three grandchildren: Sylvia, Maxxine, and Rowan; and his siblings: Virginia (Bruce) and Mercedita (Larry). Virgilio was preceded in death by his siblings: Nerissa and Francisco. He was a loving uncle to Arlyn, Alma May, Myra, Mark, Maureen, TJ, and Jamee.
Vio will be remembered by his generosity, kindness, and love for his family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lee Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, MD on Wednesday, April 29, and Thursday, April 30, from 4pm to 8pm. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be at St. Mary's of Piscataway Church on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 10am, and he will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery following the service.
