On Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in accordance with God’s will, another beautiful flower was called from her earthly home to eternal rest, free from the cares of this world. This cherished flower, affectionately known to us as our Virginia, was Virginia Mae Arnette Harris—a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Virginia was born on January 26, 1928, in Louisa, Virginia to Waddell and Dora Arnette. She attended school in Charlottesville, Virginia. She later married Ferris Aston Harris on March 19, 1946. From this union, three children were born: Ferricia, Ferris IV, and John. Virginia worked for many years as a domestic worker for families in Charlottesville before relocating to McLean, Virginia, where she continued her work until her retirement.
Virginia spent most of her life in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and served on numerous committees. She also served for many years as President of Crispus Attucks Post No. 62, American Legion Auxiliary. After her children completed high school, Virginia and Ferris relocated to McLean, Virginia, and later to Clinton, Maryland, which became her final resting place.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Waddell and Dora Arnette; her loving husband, Ferris A. Harris, Sr.; her brothers, Harry Miller and Edloe Arnette; and her sisters, Margaret DeHonney and Carolyn Dorsey. She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Ferricia Diggs (Irvng), Ferris Harris IV (Gloria), and John Harris (Cathi, deceased); her grandchildren, Tanya Biggs (Wendell), Tammie Paul (Eric), John “Jady” Harris (Vanessa), and Robin Square (Art); 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Kathryn M. Sims and Cathy Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
