Walter Andrew Straughan, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 16, 1937, in Hyattsville, MD, Walter was a beacon of love and wisdom, the son of Andrew and Evelyn Straughan.

Married to his beloved wife, Marlene Straughan, for an extraordinary 69 years, Walter exemplified devotion and commitment. Together, they built a warm and welcoming family life that brought joy to all who knew them. Walter is survived by his wife Marlene, his sons Andrew and Danial, and his brother John Robert Lewis, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Michael and Chris, and great-grandchildren, Alice, Abigail, Bree, Callie, and Eric. His family extends to many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless treasured friends whose lives have been enriched by his kindness and gentle spirit. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Evelyn Straughan

Walter dedicated his professional life to the electrical industry, beginning as an electrician with Western Electric before advancing to serve the U.S. Congress on Capitol Hill. There, he concluded his esteemed career as the General Foreman of the Electric Shop, having devoted 32 years of exceptional service.

Deeply rooted in his faith, Walter was a licensed minister with the Church of God. For over 50 years, he touched lives through his ministry, focusing on the transformative power of healing as conveyed in the Bible. His commitment to teaching, writing, and guiding others in their spiritual journeys will be fondly remembered by all who attended his weekly classes and embraced his wisdom.

As we celebrate the life of Walter, we remember not only his achievements but also the warmth of his laughter, the strength of his character, and the unwavering love he shared with family and friends. He leaves a legacy of love, faith, and a commitment to service that will resonate for generations.
