Willard "Will" Lee Alder, Jr.

June 24, 1935 — October 2, 2023

Willard (Will) Lee Alder, Jr. (88) of Lusby, Maryland passed away on October 2, 2023, with his daughters by his side. Will was born to “Buck” (Willard, Sr.) and “Frieda” (Ethel Edna) Alder, on June 24, 1935, in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Prince George’s County. He graduated from Electrical-Refrigeration Vocational School at Bladensburg with work experience with Riverdale Refrigeration, followed by a position as a field supervisor for Sears-Roebuck.

In 1964 he began a long career with Marriott Corporation in the Hot Shoppes division, the Smithsonian division and finally as chief engineer at Marriott Corporate Headquarters. Will enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, boating, quarry, shipwreck diving and earning his pilot’s license.

A member of multiple aviation associations and the Solomons Island Yacht Club. Will was most known as a talented musician who shared his love of music with everyone. He was well loved by his family and friends and enjoyed travel, gathering to share a great meal and conversation and special times with his family.

Will was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara and baby daughter, Monica Rose, his parents and brother Doug. He is survived by his loving daughters, Jennifer and husband Danny, Lisa and husband Michael, Proud Grandpa of three granddaughters, Ashley and husband Chris, Amy,  Alexandra and “Pappy” to his great grandchildren Chase and Cassadee. He is survived by his sister-in-law Joyce and brothers-in-law Michael and Tim, and many other family members and lifelong friends.

Will’s family and friends will host a Celebration of Life on April 20, 2024, at the Chesapeake Ranch Estates Club House. More details to come.
