It is with a heavy heart that the family of William Alfred “Bill” Skaggs announces the passing of our
beloved Patriarch. Our world will never be the same as we feel the infinite void he leaves behind.
Our family does not mourn alone, as Bill touched so many lives throughout his life.
Bill Skaggs, 75, of Clinton, MD, passed peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2023. He was born in Omaha
Nebraska on November 24, 1947, to the late Leonard and Naomi Skaggs.
Bill graduated from Technical High School, Omaha, NE, in 1966. During his high school career Bill
was active in the Senior Choir, Spring Concert and All-City Music Festival. During his sophomore
year, Bill had perfect attendance and served as Homeroom Vice-President. He was also active in
school plays and was an avid athlete, playing both Basketball and Football.
Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966, serving Honorably for 21 years. Bill was
awarded many honors of distinction throughout his military career. After retiring from the
military, Bill began his 2 nd career as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 20
years of service.
Bill was an original member of the Fun Bunch Social club, where he served in many supporting
roles. His most notable role was “grill-master” at the annual Fun Bunch Picnic. Although not an
official member, Bill supported the JUST US Social and Civil Club, LLC. In December 2000, Bill was
recognized for his “untiring efforts in support” of the JUST US organization. He was also an
enthusiastic “Commanders” a.k.a. “Redskins” fan.
Bill was a “Social-Light” and a natural born entertainer. He was an avid pinochle and poker player
and enjoyed playing the slot machines at The American Legion 259. He lit up the room with his
presence, and his ability to tell a joke was unmatched. Bill would often hold court amongst a
crowd of people, telling jokes. He loved oldies R&B and could sing every lyric no matter the artist.
He loved to dance and could do a mean “James Brown” back in the day. You did not have to see Bill
to know he was in the room; his hearty laugh would let you know he was present.
Bill joins in heaven his parents, Leonard and Naomi Skaggs, brothers Charles Skaggs, Tony
Williams and Carroll “Skeeter” Perkins, and his beloved maternal grandmother Callie.
Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, Freida Williams-Skaggs; sisters Blanche “Nanny” Wallace &
Darlene “Poo-baby” Hultz; daughters Amber and Aniesa Skaggs, & Carrie Lael Mack; sons William
Javon Robinson & Kevin Williams; granddaughter Sereniti Williams, nephew Brian Skaggs, and a
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.
