Wilma Valene Tate

February 14, 1942 — October 14, 2025

Wilma “Valene” Stueckler passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy was played.

Born on Valentine’s Day, 1942, in Alabama, Valene brought warmth, creativity, and grace to everyone she met. She was the daughter of Wilma Mae Patterson, sibling to Dale, John, and Jenny. In 1960, Valene married Vernon “Pete” Tate, and together they made their home in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where they raised four sons: Paul, Michael, Steven, and Keith. Following Pete’s passing in 1996, Valene later found love again and married Jack Stueckler in 2003. The couple enjoyed their years together on Maryland’s Eastern Shore before Valene returned to the western side of the Chesapeake Bay to spend her final years in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland.

Valene’s creativity was evident to all who knew her. She had a lifelong love for the arts, particularly painting and working with clay. Perhaps, her ability to create beauty came directly from her love and devotion to the triune God, to whom she devoted much of her life as a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Her artwork, treasured by family and friends, will continue to bring beauty and joy for generations to come.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Mae Patterson; her husbands, Pete Tate and Jack Stueckler; her sons, Paul and Keith Tate; and her brother, Dale Patterson. She is survived by her siblings, John (Carol) and Jenny; her sons, Michael (Sherry) and Steven; her grandchildren, Matthew (Danielle), Brian, and Kristin; and her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Simon, Ambrose, and Brinlee.

Valene’s life was marked by kindness, creativity, and enduring love for her family and faith. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
